Adani Group Enters Battery Energy Storage Sector with Landmark Project

The Adani Group has announced its entry into the Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) sector with a pioneering 1,126 MW / 3,530 MWh project at Khavda, Gujarat. Designed to store enough power for three hours of full-capacity output, the installation will be India’s largest BESS project and one of the world’s biggest single-location deployments, featuring over 700 advanced battery storage containers.

The system, already in advanced stages of development, will be integrated with high-performance lithium-ion technology and sophisticated energy management systems to ensure strong operational reliability and safety. Once commissioned by March 2026, it will play a critical role in managing peak electricity demand, enabling energy shifting, and boosting grid stability as India accelerates its renewable energy transition.

Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group, said the initiative underscores the company’s commitment to clean, affordable, and dependable energy solutions. The Group has also outlined an aggressive expansion plan, targeting an additional 15 GWh of BESS capacity by March 2027 and ultimately reaching 50 GWh within the next five years to support India’s long-term sustainability goals.
