Adani Electricity Used Renewable Energy To Supply Mumbai Power On Diwali
On Diwali day, Adani Electricity, a prominent power utility company, proudly announced its exclusive reliance on renewable sources to meet Mumbai’s power demands for a consecutive four-hour period. During the crucial timeframe from 10 AM to 2 PM, the company supplied 1,200 MW of power generated from renewable sources to its substantial 3 million subscribers. This remarkable feat translated to over 40 per cent of Mumbai’s power requirements being fulfilled by renewable energy. Notably, the financial capital had a peak power demand exceeding 2,500 MW in the morning, escalating to 2,776 MW by the evening.
Amid Mumbai’s ongoing efforts to combat pollution and enhance air quality, Adani Electricity’s initiative assumes added significance. A substantial portion of Mumbai’s power is traditionally sourced from neighboring regions. In response to the environmental concerns, state authorities recently urged another power generation company to reduce particulate matter emissions by half.
Adani Electricity executed this renewable energy reliance meticulously, planning well in advance by tapping into solar and wind power generation. The company’s managing director, Kandarp Patel, emphasized the groundbreaking nature of achieving 100 per cent renewable energy utilization, marking a significant milestone in Mumbai’s energy transition. Patel expressed confidence in the feasibility of renewables providing reliable and sustainable electricity at competitive tariffs for the city.
Providing insights into their ongoing efforts, Adani Electricity stated that 38 per cent of the power supplied to consumers in 2023 was sourced from renewable channels. The company further reiterated its commitment to elevate this proportion to an ambitious 60 per cent by the year 2027. This proactive stance underscores Adani Electricity’s dedication to fostering a more sustainable and eco-friendly energy landscape for Mumbai.
