Actor Claims Uber Cab Driver Misbehaved With Her, Mumbai Police Respond

Manava Naik, a film actor and director, claims that an Uber driver mistreated her and threatened her as she was riding home in a taxi.
The actor, who has appeared in Marathi and Hindi movies, wrote about the incident on her Facebook page on Saturday night.

In response to the tweet, Mumbai Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Vishwas Nangre Patil stated that the city police had taken serious notice of the occurrence and that action would be done against the offender shortly.

Ms. Naik’s first-person narrative states that she hailed a cab from the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) at 8:15 p.m. to travel home. She took offence when the cabbie began talking on the phone while he was operating the vehicle while she sat inside. She noted in the article that the driver had also broken the law by running a red light in the BKC, for which a traffic officer had stopped the cab and taken a picture of it.

The driver and the traffic officer got into an argument. The actor then stepped in and requested the traffic cop to let the car go so he could take a picture of it. The actor stated that the cab driver became irate and shouted at Ms. Naik, asking if she would pay the $500 fine for him and threatening her with severe repercussions. The actor ordered the driver to take the cab to a police station during their disagreement, but the driver halted the car in a shadowy area of the BKC.

The driver then increased the speed of the car and started driving in the direction of Priyadarshani Park and Chunabhatti Road. Ms. Naik made a complaint over the phone to the Uber Safety hotline. She wrote in the article that the driver once more increased the cab speed while they were on the phone with the helpline representative. Ms. Naik claimed that despite her request for the vehicle to stop, he instead began calling somebody.

Mumbai Joint CP Nangre Patil replied to the post saying, “Manava ji, we have taken serious cognisance of this grave incident! Dcp zone 8 is working on it and will book the culprit soonest possible.” The cab aggregator’s response on the incident was awaited.
