Aamir Khan On “Boycott Laal Singh Chaddha” Twitter Trend: They Think I Don’t Like India But It’s Untrue

Just a few days before it was set to hit theatres, Aamir Khan’s new film Laal Singh Chaddha found itself in the middle of a heated debate when the hashtag “#BoycottLaalSinghChaddha” began to trend on Twitter.

According to India Today, Aamir Khan, who plays the title character and co-produced the movie, recently responded to the boycott movement by saying, “Yes, I feel sad,” reported India Today. The actor added, “Also, I feel sad that some of the people who are saying this, in their heart, they believe that I am someone who doesn’t like India. In their hearts they believe, but it is untrue. It is rather unfortunate that some people feel that way.That’s not the case.” He requested fans to give his film a fair chance and added, “Please don’t boycott my film. Please watch my film.”

Aamir Khan revealed in a 2015 interview that his ex-filmmaker wife Kiran Rao had proposed they move countries due of “increasing intolerance,” which sparked the boycott campaign against the movie. Nationwide protests had been sparked by his remarks.

Forrest Gump, directed by Robert Zemeckis and starring Tom Hanks, was remade in Hindi as Laal Singh Chaddha. Advait Chandan is the director of the Hindi version. Producing Laal Singh Chaddha along are Aamir Khan, Kiran Rao, and Viacom 18 Motion Pictures. Kareena Kapoor and Mona Singh, Aamir Khan’s 3 Idiots co-stars, will appear alongside him in Laal Singh Chaddha. Naga Chaitanya makes his Bollywood debut with it as well.

In Forrest Gump, Tom Hanks played a man who goes on to do great feats in his life. His sole aim is to be with Jenny, his childhood sweetheart, nevertheless. Raksha Bandhan, directed by Aanand L. Rai, will compete at the box office alongside Laal Singh Chaddha. The August 11 release date has been set for both movies.
