NHPC and Essar Renewables Join Hands for $475 Million Green Energy Project in Andhra Pradesh
India’s NHPC and Essar Power’s renewable energy arm are partnering to develop a 300-megawatt renewable energy project in southern Andhra Pradesh. Essar Power will invest approximately ₹45 billion ($475 million) in the project, which will combine solar power, wind energy and battery energy storage systems to supply renewable electricity.
NHPC, India’s largest hydropower producer, has been expanding its presence in the solar and wind energy sectors. The partnership marks another step in the company’s efforts to diversify its energy portfolio while supporting India’s growing demand for cleaner power.
The project is also part of Essar Power’s strategy to build a diversified 5 GW power generation portfolio spanning renewable, thermal and gas-based energy. It aligns with India’s broader renewable energy ambitions, including its target of achieving 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, while strengthening grid reliability amid rising electricity demand.
