Rahul Gandhi’s Nephew Says Protest Artwork Was Removed from Delhi Exhibition
Raihan Vadra, nephew of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and son of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, has alleged that he was forced to remove several artworks documenting youth protests from his exhibition at Bikaner House, a government-run cultural centre in New Delhi. Vadra said the photographs were labelled “objectionable” by the venue’s management just hours before the exhibition, titled No Idea is Final, opened on Wednesday.
The disputed photographs documented youth-led protests in Delhi, while Vadra also claimed he was asked to remove two photographs featuring the Indian national flag, a request he refused. The Bikaner House Management Society said it had requested the removal of certain photographs because they were inconsistent with its policies, adding that other works meeting its guidelines remained on display.
The incident comes amid heightened political tensions over youth protests against the government, including demonstrations related to examination paper leaks and a controversial revision of voter lists. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra criticised the removal on social media, defending freedom of expression. The episode has drawn attention to questions surrounding artistic freedom and the display of politically sensitive work at government-run cultural venues.
