Baba Kalyani Dismisses Brother’s Claims of a Second Will as “Misinformation Campaign”
Pune-based billionaire Baba Kalyani, the 75-year-old head of the Kalyani Group, has denied allegations by his younger brother, Gaurishankar Kalyani, about a second Will from their late mother, Sulochana. Gaurishankar, a non-executive director at Kalyani Forge, claims a new Will from December 2022 bequeaths him family assets. Baba, along with their sister Sugandha Hiremath, contests this, citing that their mother died intestate, leading to a court battle over the authenticity of the Wills.
The dispute intensified when Gaurishankar filed an affidavit in July, presenting the 2022 Will, while independent directors linked to the Kalyani Group had earlier submitted a 2012 Will for probate. Baba Kalyani condemned the latest claims, calling them fabricated and aimed at tarnishing his reputation. The court hearing for the contested 2022 Will is scheduled for September 23, while the probate of the 2012 Will is set for October.
The family feud spans years, including ongoing litigation between Baba, Gaurishankar, and their sister Sugandha over control of various Kalyani Group assets, including Bharat Forge and Hikal. With a 45.25% family stake in Bharat Forge, valued at over ₹33,731 crore, the outcome of the court proceedings could have significant financial implications.
