College in Karnataka instructs students to attend class without hijab

Government College, Karnataka instructs students to attend classes after changing hijab in school waiting room. In Bhadravathi, Visvesvaraya Government College, Shivamogga district, college students were instructed to enter classes without hijab.

The proposal is to attend such a class from Thursday. MG Umashankar, Principal, Visvesvaraya Government College, explained that the consensus was reached after talking to the students and their parents. The decision came after a group of students staged a protest against the wearing of hijab by Muslim students in classes.

A section of students from the college wore saffron shawls to protest. Government colleges in Karnataka have uniform facilities. Visvesvaraya Government College also staged a protest against the wearing of hijab after students protested with saffron shawls at a college in Chikmagalur.
