Govt thinks ‘Condom Ads’ are indecent

Creating a clear segregation between what kinds of programmes and advertisements a child may see through their television and what kinds of programmes and advertisements a child may not see, the central government’s Information and Broadcasting ministry has dictated that the television channels must not telecast any advertisements related to condom between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m.

In the official statement directing the television channels to strictly abstain from telecasting these advertisements in the mentioned time, it has been said that the condom advertisements are indecent for children and are supposed to target a different age group so these advertisements are inappropriate for viewing by children.

The ministry, in the statement, has used the Cable Television Network Rules, 1994, to justify their order.

Anyway, the ministry has asserted that those who violate this directive would attract serious punishment as per what the rule related to this directs the government to do against the offenders.

It has been learned that the Advertising Standards Council of India recently directed the concerned ministry to do something to block indecent advertisements.

It has been identified that the ASCI’s advice came in the wake of a widespread uproar against the Sunny Leone’s condom advertisement inappropriately released during the Hindu festival season.
