Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who is the chief campaigner of the Gujarat Assembly Election, has been elected as the president of Congress Party today.

The announcement regarding the election has been made by the chief returning officer of the election, Mullappally Ramachandran.

The new declaration has put an end to the nineteen year reign of Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, who is the mother of the newly elected supremo.

While speaking to the media personals, the returning officer has claimed that the election officials received nearly eighty-nine nomination papers. He has added that all the nomination papers unanimously proposed the name of congress scion Rahul Gandhi. He further added that the official inauguration ceremony would take place on coming Saturday at AICC headquarters in Delhi.

For the newly elected leader, the election result of the Indian state of Gujarat, the state which is undergoing the crucial assembly election, is very crucial, as the grand old party has been projecting Rahul Gandhi as the prime election campaigner in the election since the commencement of the campaigning process.

Anyway, the Congress Party workers have organised programs across the country to share their happiness.

Political observers claim that the declaration would also help the party to perform in a more efficient manner in the second phase of the Gujarat election.
