6 Terrorists infiltrated; Extensive search in Kashmir
The Army has launched a search operation in Uri, Kashmir following reports that six terrorists had infiltrated from Pakistan. It is believed to be the largest infiltration attempt by terrorists in a few years. Internet and mobile phone services in Uri village were cut off as part of a massive search.
On the night of the 18th, the fifth anniversary of the terrorist attack on the Uri army base, armed terrorists tried to infiltrate. A soldier was shot during a confrontation with them. It is not clear whether the militants who fled after the clashes returned to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir or hid in the jungles on the Indian side. Mobile and internet services have been suspended to prevent terrorists from communicating with bases in Pakistan-administered Kashmir.
This is the second infiltration attempt by India and Pakistan since a ceasefire agreement was reached last February. Earlier this year, the army killed terrorists who tried to infiltrate through the Bandipura sector.
