14 Cars Swept Away After Surge In Khargone River Level

The unexpected rise in water in a river following rainfall caused at least 14 automobiles to be washed away while 50 people fled for safety to higher ground in a forest in Madhya Pradesh’s Khargone district, police said on Monday.

According to Additional Superintendent of Police Jitendra Singh Pawar, the group, who were all from the Indore district and included women and children, were taking a picnic on Sunday evening near the Sukdi river in the Katkoot forest within the boundaries of the Balwada police station.

The river water level abruptly increased after local rains. According to the official, the picnickers fled to higher ground in the forest to save themselves, leaving their automobiles and sports utility vehicles (SUVs) behind.

He claimed that at least 14 vehicles, including some SUVs, were submerged in the water. After receiving a warning, police arrived to the scene and, with the aid of tractors from nearby villagers, removed ten cars and SUVs.

The autos, however, experienced technical difficulties since water had gotten inside of them, according to the official. He claimed that more trucks were used to transport the picnickers later to their houses. He claimed that although one car was stranded close to a bridge pole, the other three were washed away to other locations.

The official stated that the local police have been instructed to erect a sign in the area warning of the risk of abrupt water surges in such locations.
