Karnataka Crisis: Rebel MLAs in Mumbai prefer not to meet Congress and JD(S) leaders

In a letter to a senior police officer in the Indian state of Maharashtra, the rebel member of legislative assembly of the JD(S) and Congress from Karnataka, who recently resigned from their state assembly citing various reasons, has informed their disinterest t0 meet their respective party’s leaders, who has been trying to meet the rebel MLAs (who are staying in a hotel in Mumbai) for last few days.

The move has come amidst rumours that some senior Congress and JD(S) leaders, including Congress veteran leader Mallikarjun Kharge and JD(S) leader and Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, may reach Mumbai to meet the rebel MLAs.

In Karnataka, the ruling JD(S)-Congress coalition is in the brick of collapse. With the resignation of nearly sixteen rebel MLAs and the withdrawal of support of two independent MLAs, the coalition’s strength has come down to 100.

The BJP, the single largest party in the Karnataka assembly, has around 105 members. With the nearly gained support of the two independents, now the strength stands at over 107.

This week, the Indian state of Karnataka is likely to witness several political dramas. The ongoing is the most severe power struggle the state has witnessed in the modern history.
