Zee Entertainment Plans ₹23 Billion Fund Raise

Indian media company Zee Entertainment Enterprises has announced plans to raise ₹23 billion ($241 million) to support its strategic growth and business expansion initiatives. The company said its board will evaluate various fundraising options, though the specific method for raising the capital has not yet been disclosed.

The move comes shortly after Zee secured broadcasting rights for major FIFA tournaments in India, including the 2026 and 2030 FIFA World Cups. The agreement covers 39 FIFA events through 2034, strengthening the broadcaster’s position in the sports media sector. Zee has also expanded its sports portfolio with dedicated sports channels to attract a wider audience.

Beyond traditional television, Zee has been investing in new ventures such as the micro-drama platform Bullet and visual-effects studio PhantomFX. The fundraising announcement follows a challenging March quarter, during which the company reported a loss due to higher operating expenses and weaker advertising spending amid geopolitical uncertainties.
