Modi, Trump Expected to Hold Key Talks at G7 Summit
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to meet U.S. President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Evian-les-Bains, France, with trade, H-1B visas, and energy cooperation likely to dominate discussions. Modi is scheduled to attend the summit from June 15-17 as part of a broader five-day international visit.
The meeting comes at a sensitive time for India-U.S. relations, which have faced challenges over tariff disputes and comments by Trump regarding India-Pakistan tensions. However, recent diplomatic engagements, including talks involving U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, have helped improve dialogue between the two countries on trade, security, visas, and energy cooperation.
Both sides are also working toward an interim trade agreement that could be finalized by mid-July. India is seeking preferential tariff treatment, while visa policies affecting thousands of Indian professionals in the U.S. are expected to be a major discussion point. Potential energy collaboration involving the U.S. and Venezuela may also be on the agenda.
