VinFast to Launch Electric Two-Wheelers in India by 2026, Eyes Ride-Hailing and E-Bus Market
Vietnamese automaker VinFast, which recently debuted the VF 6 and VF 7 electric cars in India, is preparing to introduce its electric two-wheelers in the country by 2026. The company is currently conducting feasibility studies and engaging with partners to understand local market requirements. With a portfolio of at least six electric scooters, VinFast may begin its Indian two-wheeler journey with two models, entering a highly competitive segment dominated by Bajaj, TVS, Ather, and Ola Electric.
Alongside two-wheelers, VinFast is planning to expand its mobility footprint in India with the launch of its electric ride-hailing service by early 2026. The company, which has seen success with its GSM-operated fleet in Vietnam, aims to replicate this model in India. It is also in advanced discussions with multiple state governments, including Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh, to introduce electric buses as part of its broader public mobility push.
VinFast’s parent group, Vingroup, is exploring ways to bring its larger ecosystem to India, covering sectors such as education, healthcare, hospitality, and mobility. The company recently inaugurated an assembly plant in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, as part of a phased investment of up to ₹16,000 crore, positioning India as a major manufacturing and export hub. VinFast is also evaluating options for offering charging solutions and potentially building its own charging network, similar to its large-scale infrastructure in Vietnam.
