US Clears $92.8 Million Sale of Javelin Missiles, Excalibur Shells to India

The United States has approved a foreign military sale worth $92.8 million to India, covering advanced Javelin Missile Systems, Excalibur precision-guided artillery projectiles, and associated equipment, according to the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency. The deal includes $45.7 million worth of Javelin systems and $47.1 million for Excalibur projectiles. The US said the sale supports its foreign policy objectives by boosting defence ties with India and enhancing security in the Indo-Pacific and South Asia.

As part of the package, India will receive 100 FGM-148 Javelin missiles, one test missile, and 25 launcher units, along with training rounds, batteries, manuals, maintenance support, spare parts, and technical assistance. Additionally, the US will supply up to 216 M982A1 Excalibur GPS-guided artillery shells, along with fire control systems, primers, propellants, repair services, and related support. The primary contractors for the deal will be the RTX–Lockheed Martin Javelin Joint Venture and RTX Corporation.

According to the US government, the sale will significantly enhance India’s ability to counter current and emerging threats while strengthening deterrence in the region. The Javelin is a shoulder-launched, fire-and-forget anti-tank missile known for its high accuracy, while the Excalibur projectile offers long-range, precision artillery capability. The US noted that India will be able to seamlessly integrate the new systems into its existing military infrastructure.
