Tesla Strengthens EV Push in India with Ecosystem-Focused Strategy
Tesla is accelerating its India strategy by building a comprehensive EV ecosystem to support long-term growth. After entering its 50th global market earlier this year, the company is prioritising charging infrastructure across major cities, aligning installations with customer lifestyles at homes, malls, hotels, and staycation destinations.
Since introducing two imported Model Y variants, Tesla has set up multiple charging stations and opened experience centres in Mumbai and Delhi, with Gurugram soon to follow. Despite selling 109 units in 2025, high import duties keep prices significantly above U.S. levels, prompting Tesla to focus on service and charging networks rather than local manufacturing for now.
The company emphasises that expanding EV adoption is vital to improving India’s air quality, particularly in pollution-hit cities like Delhi and Mumbai. Tesla India GM Sharad Agarwal highlighted that the brand aims to accelerate the transition to sustainable mobility by strengthening infrastructure and customer accessibility.
