Tata Group Veteran R Krishnakumar Dies At 84

Officials claimed R Krishnakumar, a close aide to Ratan Tata and a business veteran, died Sunday evening. Krishnakumar, who was born in Kerala and held various positions within the firm, including CEO of its hospitality arm Indian Hotels, was 84 years old.

According to reports, the Padma Shri awardee died of a heart attack on Sunday at his residence in the financial capital. N Chandrasekaran, the current chairman of Tata Sons, expressed condolences for Krishnakumar’s “enormous contribution” to the Tata Group.

“I had the good fortune of knowing him and what stood out was his deep sense of compassion as a human being. He always wanted to help the less privileged and positively impact their lives. We pray for his departed soul and will sorely miss him,” Mr Chandrasekaran said in a statement.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan tweeted that Krishnakumar, who was born in Thalassery, helped develop the group’s relations with the southern state and sent condolences to the family.

Krishnakumar remained involved with the Tata Trusts after retiring from executive positions, and was reputedly part of the team that assisted Ratan Tata in the Cyrus Mistry ousting affair.

Krishnakumar’s funeral will take place at the Chandanwadi Crematorium here on Monday at 4.30 p.m.
