The cyclonic storm “Mandous” was moving closer to the state’s coastline, causing light to moderate rainfall and heavy showers in some areas, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported on Friday. The storm is expected to cross the shore close to here starting at midnight.
Widespread rainfall, ranging from light to moderate to heavy, was observed in coastal areas and other regions of the State on December 9 as a result of the cyclonic storm.

At the disaster management control room in this location, Chief Minister M K Stalin reviewed the preparedness by interacting with monitoring officers and officials in districts. If this cyclone crosses the coast near Mamallapuram, it will be the 13th cyclone to cross the coast (between Chennai and Puducherry).

The Chief Minister later told reporters that all appropriate steps have been taken to tackle the situation and protect the people. Chief Secretary V Irai Anbu chaired a meeting of senior officials and reviewed the preparatory measures.

The IMD reported that Doppler weather radars are keeping an eye on the cyclone, which on December 9 weakened into a cyclonic storm after less than 24 hours as a severe cyclonic storm. According to Balachandran, it was located about 135 miles southeast of Mamallapuram (on Friday at 7.30 PM).
