Suspended BJP Leader Arrested For Torturing Help, Her Son Had Tipped Off

A suspended BJP leader was detained this morning on charges that she starved and beat the domestic staff at her Jharkhand house, including breaking her teeth with an iron rod.
After her son told a friend, a government official, about the horrifying torture and requested assistance, Seema Patra was apprehended.

She told the journalists that she was framed while she was being carried away by the police. I’m innocent, she declared. According to reports, Seema Patra admitted her son to the hospital for exposing her. When questioned why her son was at the hospital, she responded, “He was poorly.”

After a video of Seema Patra’s domestic assistant accusing her of torturing him went viral on Tuesday, the BJP suspended Patra. The BJP’s women’s branch was represented on the national working committee by Ms. Patra, and her husband, Maheshwar Patra, is a former IAS officer.

Her assistant Sunita has been with her for ten years.

Sunita is depicted in the video lying on a hospital bed with injuries on her body and face. The 29-year-old woman had difficulty speaking as she claimed that she had been tortured and battered with iron pans and rods while being held captive. Her teeth were mostly absent, and she was unable to sit up.

She claimed that she was made to lick the floor of urine. She also broke my teeth with an iron rod,” Sunita said.

She apparently went days without food or water. According to Ms. Patra, her son Ayushman saved her. She added in the video, sobbing, “I am only living because of him.

Ayushman, who was evidently horrified by the abuse, confided in a friend, shared videos, and requested his assistance before Sunita was saved last week. A government official and his friend Vivek Anand Baskey called the police.

Strong emotions have been sparked by Sunita’s videos, which are currently in widespread circulation. Ramesh Bais, the governor of Jharkhand, also met with Neeraj Sinha, the director general of police, yesterday and voiced “severe worry” over the lack of progress being made against the suspended BJP leader. According to the police, there is no proof that Ms. Patra’s husband is guilty.
