“Shraddha Walkar Met Friend, Boyfriend Got Violent”: Cops On Murder Motive

According to the police’s chargesheet in the gruesome murder case, Aaftab Poonawala killed his lover Shraddha Walkar in a fit of rage after discovering that she had left to meet a friend.
The Delhi Police claimed in the 6,629-page chargesheet that Aaftab Poonawala turned violent after learning that his girlfriend had gone out to meet the friend.

“The accused did not like the fact that she had gone to meet a friend. He became worried. He killed her that day,” Joint Commissioner of Police Meenu Choudhary told reporters today.

Aaftab Poonawala, 28, is accused of killing Shraddha Walkar, 27, in their leased Delhi apartment in May. To conceal the crime, he allegedly dismembered Walkar’s body and dumped the pieces in a nearby forest and other locations over the course of over three weeks. Both had relocated from Mumbai to Delhi in May alone and were living together.

“We collected body parts for a long time. A lot of technology went into analysing the evidence. We got a DNA and other forensic tests done,” Ms Choudhary said.

While framing the chargesheet, the police recorded the statements of almost 150 people. According to the police’s chargesheet, Aaftab Poonawala dismembered his girlfriend’s body with more than five different types of knives and other implements.

In Gurugram, a saw and blade that were reportedly used to dismember the body were thrown into the bushes. In south Delhi, a meat cleaver was thrown into a trash can.

In October, Shraddha Walkar’s father reported Aaftab Poonawala to the authorities in their Maharashtra village. Due to his displeasure about her interfaith connection with Aaftab Poonawala, her father, Vikas Walkar, has not been in contact with her.
