Series to be binge watched during the pandemic

The number of Covid 19 positive cases are increasing day by day. During the pandemic period everyone is working from home. So let’s go through few nerve chilling series that we can binge watch during this time.

Asur: Welcome to your dark side

Arshad Warsi and Barun Sobti play the lead roles in Asur. The eight-episode crime thriller takes us to Varanasi when Nikhil Nair (Barun Sobti) returns to CBI to solve a case involving a dangerous killer. He unites with his former mentor Dhananjay Rajpoot (Arshad Warsi) and together the two try to catch the ‘Asur’ that lurks in the darkness.

Delhi Crime

This seven episode series, written and directed by Richie Mehta, plays out like a sobering police procedural about a cop (Shefali Shah) who hunts down six men behind the gang rape of student in Delhi on a moving bus. It’s based on a chilling true story of the gang-rape and murder of Jyoti Singh, 23, who was violently assaulted and left for dead by five men and a teenager on a bus in New Delhi (the Nirbhaya case that captured the imagination and evoked terror in India) and so every scene sobers you and is a grim reality about how unsafe cities can get for women at large. The gravity of the crime and how the Delhi cops managed to nab the culprits are told with grim efficiency. Shah as the lead investigative officer is perfectly cast and brings home the series. It’s gritty and overwhelming.

Special Ops

Neeraj Pandey’s Special Ops started streaming on Disney+ Hotstar starring Kay Kay Menon, Karan Tacker, Vinay Pathak, Divya Dutt, Meher Vij among others, the show was instantly loved by the audience. The show follows Menon’s character Himmat Singh who is a R&AW agent who believes that there is a single entity behind all the major terrorist attacks.

Apharan

Apharan is a suspense thriller web series that stars Arunoday Singh and Mahie Gill. The series is set in current times and revolves around kidnapping, suspense, mystery and never ending action.

Abhay 1 & 2

Inspired by true events, this crime thriller is about Abhay Pratap Singh played by Kunal Khemmu, who investigates crimes using the mind of a criminal, which takes him to extreme lengths to solve gruesome cases. On one hand where he tries to catch criminals, he also has to deal with his inner demons.

Ashram

The nine-episode series rests on the theme of a godman and their misdeeds. It explores through the wall of andh-bhakti (blind faith) from which a godman’s power flows and gnaws away at the vitals of the heart of a society with multiple faultlines. Bobby Deol in the lead role playing the character Baba Nirala Kashipurwala takes a journey of a godman.

Bandish Bandits

Bandish Bandit is a series which leads the viewers to go through a musical journey. Naseerudin Shah, Atul Kulkarni, Ritwik Bhowmik and Shreya Chaudhary are seen the series playing the lead roles. There is the clash between the wildly different worlds of Hindustani classical and pop music. The rift between generations, the tussle between lovers, the tensions between purity and popularity.

Undekhi

Undekhi is a well-crafted and intelligently scripted story that will keep you engaged throughout. Undekhi leaves you guessing till the end. And with a anxious ending, the makers leave the possibility of another season open.

The Gone Game

The Gone Game on Voot Select is an interesting experiment, a four-part series which cleverly utilises the onset and impact of the virus as a crucial plot point. The creators use this to their advantage and set the stage for a thriller.

Mafia: Game for Life

Mafia is a drama series which recently released on the OTT platform. The plot of this series revolves around a bunch of college friends and their reunion which brings a horrifying incident from the past to the forefront. This show is being defined as the right blend of suspense.
