SC withdraws controversial order on private medical admission

Aiming to reduce corrupt admission-practices in the private medical sector, the Supreme Court of Indian on last day decided to review a controversial judgement announcing a common eligibility test irrelevant. In mid-2013, a beach headed by then Chief Justice Altamas Kabir observed that the common national entrance and eligibility test, NEET, will badly affect the personal admission-choice and criteria of federal government, federal universities and private universities and colleges. As a result of that observation, the court decided to keep these institutions away from the armpit of the NEET. It is learned that the common eligibility and entrance test had effectively helped the authorities to tackle the corrupt admission practices in the private medical sector until it was announced unconstitutional by the court. But, the elimination of this test has resulted in creating enough room for corrupt practices like capital donations, experts say. Meanwhile, now, a beach headed by Justice A.R. Dave held that the controversial order to eliminate NEET needs review. Interestingly, Justice A.R. Dave was the member of the three member panel that announced the 2013 order. It is said that the court will announce a fresh hearing on the case soon. Anyway, though the court has not given any substantial reason to back its decision to reconsider the case, it is likely to avoid all mistakes this time. NEET is a common entrance exam for BDS, MBBS and PG medical courses in our country.
