Russia Praises India’s Understanding Amid Strained Ties with Europe

Russia has praised India for maintaining open dialogue and understanding at a time when Moscow says communication with European nations has completely broken down. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov highlighted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Indian officials actively listen to Russia’s viewpoints, enabling meaningful discussions—something Peskov says is impossible with Europe due to the absence of any dialogue.

Peskov acknowledged India’s concerns about the widening trade imbalance, with Russia exporting far more to India than it imports. He said both countries are exploring ways to boost Indian exports and build a trade framework protected from sanctions and third-country influence. This comes as India faces rising US tariffs and reduced crude imports due to Western sanctions, prompting Russia to seek new mechanisms to sustain energy and trade flows.

Russia is also pushing for deeper cooperation across defence, energy, and technology. Discussions include joint projects like BrahMos, potential supply of advanced defence systems, and collaboration on small and medium nuclear reactors. Peskov stressed that Moscow respects India’s independent foreign policy and values New Delhi’s efforts toward peaceful solutions, reaffirming Russia’s readiness to expand ties in every sector.
