Rishi Sunak Joins Microsoft and Anthropic as Senior Adviser, Donates Earnings to Charity
Former British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has announced that he has taken up senior advisory roles with Microsoft and artificial intelligence (AI) startup Anthropic. In a LinkedIn post, Sunak said he is “delighted” to be working with “two of the world’s leading tech firms,” adding that his focus will be on global strategic and macroeconomic issues rather than UK policy.
Sunak confirmed that all earnings from his new roles will be donated to The Richmond Project, a charitable initiative he co-founded with his wife, Akshata Murty. Both Microsoft and Anthropic stated that his appointments comply with the UK’s Advisory Committee on Business Appointments (ACOBA) regulations, which bar him from lobbying or contacting UK officials on their behalf.
The move marks Sunak’s continued engagement with the global business and technology sector, following his appointment as an adviser to Goldman Sachs earlier this year. The former prime minister, who led the UK from October 2022 to July 2024, remains the Member of Parliament for Richmond and Northallerton, reaffirming his commitment to serve his constituency.
