Rishi Sunak In Hot Water Over ₹ 3.8 Crore Swimming Pool Amid Drought In UK: Report

Rishi Sunak, an Indian-origin candidate for UK prime minister, has once again come under fire for his lifestyle with less than a month till the election. Reports state that Sunak is investing close to 3.8 crore in a lavish swimming pool for his residence. The news is released at a time when a severe heatwave and drought are affecting many areas of England.

According to The Independent, Rishi Sunak spent 400,000 pounds (around 3.8 crore) on a new pool for his property. This North Yorkshire home is where Sunak, his wife Akshata Murty, and their two kids spend their weekends. The Daily Mail claims that the former Chancellor of the Exchequer is also constructing a tennis court and a gym.

Aerial photography of the area reveals that the pool’s development is proceeding apace. This has sparked a social media uproar, with many criticising Sunak for constructing a swimming pool when the nation is experiencing a water scarcity. The fact that the town’s public pools were compelled to close because of growing electricity expenses also fuels the fire.

Rishi Sunak and his family have been involved in a controversy over their way of living before. Akshata Murty received criticism from the public last month after she was spotted serving tea on pricey china.

The two main causes of the public’s unhappiness with the Boris Johnson-led government were an increase in taxes and a sharp rise in living expenses. The UK’s then-Chancellor, Mr. Sunak, has faced criticism for the tax increase.
In the contest to become the next prime minister of the UK, Rishi Sunak is competing against Liz Truss.
