Reliance Infrastructure to Invest ₹10,000 Crore in Defence Manufacturing Hub in Maharashtra
Reliance Infrastructure Ltd, led by the Anil Ambani group, has announced a massive ₹10,000 crore investment in Maharashtra over the next decade to establish an integrated facility for producing explosives, ammunition, and small arms. The company has been allocated 1,000 acres in the Watad Industrial Area of Ratnagiri to develop the Dhirubhai Ambani Defence City (DADC), which it claims will be the largest greenfield project in India’s private defence sector. This project aligns with Reliance Infrastructure’s ongoing efforts to support India’s defence industry and bolster its manufacturing capabilities.
Reliance Infrastructure’s subsidiaries have already exported over ₹1,000 crore worth of defence equipment and hold government licenses for manufacturing arms and ammunition. The proposed DADC project will offer a comprehensive range of products, including small, medium, and large-caliber ammunition as well as terminally guided munitions. These offerings are expected to serve both civil and military markets globally, with a focus on expanding India’s presence in the defence export sector.
The project anticipates collaborations with up to six leading global defence companies to support production, adding to Reliance’s existing partnerships. The company already operates joint ventures with Dassault Aviation and Thales of France in Maharashtra’s MIHAN, Nagpur. With a diversified portfolio and strategic partnerships, Reliance Infrastructure aims to establish DADC as a significant contributor to India’s defence manufacturing ambitions.
