Raj Thackeray appears before ED

Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray has appeared before the Enforcement Directorate which has summoned him in connection with a money laundering case.

His family members, including his wife, son and his daughter-in-law, have also accompanied him to the office of the ED located in the south region of the Mumbai city.

The Mumbai police have imposed the section 144 of CrPC in and around the Enforcement Directorate officer and in and around those regions in the city where the party has a strong support base.

Mr Thackeray has advised his supporters not to organise any agitation in connection with this issue.

The imposition of the Section 144 has been taken as a preventive measure. The police have also served notice to the supporters of the party to caution them against the organisation of any agitation in relation with the issue.

The ED has also summoned the son of former Maharashtra Chief Minister and senior Shiv Sena leader Manohar Joshi in connection with the same case.

Unmesh Joshi will also have to appear before the ED in the near future itself.

Anyway, what precedent the MNM leader has set is far better than the one set by the Congress leader. Unlike the Congress leader, the MNM leader has not hid under the shelter of his party to escape from the arm of law.

Had the Congress leader appeared himself before the CBI at the right time, he could have avoided the yesterday’s drama.

Political leaders should not give a wrong message to the society. What the Congress leader showed last day was not defiantly a good message.

The charges against the Congress leader and the MNM leader are similar in nature. What makes them different is the courage that has been shown by the MNM leader to appear before the ED himself without resorting to any provocative political move.
