Heavy Rains in Mumbai Claim Six Lives, Disrupt Transport and Daily Life
At least six people, including five children and a woman, lost their lives after multiple residential buildings collapsed in Mumbai’s Mankhurd area following heavy rainfall. The incident is the latest tragedy linked to the ongoing monsoon, which has caused widespread flooding and damage across the city.
The relentless rains also triggered landslides on the Mumbai–Pune Expressway, forcing authorities to close the route and disrupting traffic between the two cities. Flight operations faced delays, while several long-distance train services, including routes connecting Mumbai and Pune, were cancelled. Schools and colleges remained closed as many roads and residential areas were left waterlogged.
Mumbai recorded more than 100 mm of rainfall, with some areas receiving up to 161 mm in a short period. Heavy rains have also caused trees to fall across the city, resulting in additional fatalities over the past week. Authorities continue to monitor the situation as rescue efforts and restoration work remain underway.
