Pune Woman Forced By In-Laws To Bathe In Public

According to news agency ANI, a 30-year-old woman from Pune, Maharashtra, has filed a complaint against her husband and in-laws for allegedly abusing her and compelling her to take a public bath under a waterfall.

The news agency added that the woman claimed she was forced to do it as a part of a “ritual” prescribed by an occultist in order to conceive a boy. According to the authorities, harassment started immediately after the woman’s 2013 wedding to a local businessman.

According to Indian Express, which cited police authorities, the woman’s complaint stated that her husband had taken a loan of Rs. 75 lakh by mortgaging property supplied by her parents and sold the gold jewels.

The woman claimed that her husband had falsified her signature on the loan document. According to the Express article, the woman’s husband met an occultist from Kolhapur who ritually treated her for “earnings in the business. She also said that Moulana Baba Jamadar, an occultist, had instructed her husband to accompany her to Raigad so she could take a public bath under a waterfall in order to “carry a male child,” according to the report.

The husband, in-laws, and occultist are among the four people named in a First Information Report (FIR) or case that the Pune Police filed against them on Sunday in response to her complaint, according to ANI. According to Senior Police Inspector Jagannath Kalaskar of Pune’s Bharti Vidyapeeth Police station, “Police have registered a case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code as well as section 3 of Maharashtra Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifice and other Inhuman, Evil and Aghori Practices and Black Magic Act, 2013 against the four.”
