Prophet Remark: Over 200 people have been arrested in Uttar Pradesh as a result of clashes and protests

More than 200 people have been arrested in six districts across Uttar Pradesh in connection with recent remarks about Prophet Muhammad made by a now-suspended BJP leader. In Prayagraj, 68 people were arrested, while in Hathras, 50 people were taken into custody. Saharanpur had 48 arrests, followed by Ambedkarnagar with 28 arrests, Moradabad with 25 arrests, and Ferozabad with eight arrests.

In total, 227 people have been arrested in these six districts in relation to the protests against suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma and expelled party leader Naveen Jindal’s remarks about Prophet Muhammad.

According to police, the arrests are being made based on video footage obtained from protest sites. “People who were involved in the protests were identified and arrested. Despite the administration’s appeals for calm, protests were held in these locations “Prashant Kumar, a senior police officer told.

According to the office of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, officials have been given the freedom and clear instructions to take strict action against “anti-social elements.” “The CM has given officials broad authority and clear instructions to deal harshly with anti-social elements. Those who take the law into their own hands will be subjected to harsh punishments “In a statement, his office said.

After Friday prayers, a clash between police and protesters erupted in parts of Prayagaraj. During clashes in Prayagaraj’s Atala area, stones were also thrown.

People holding placards in Saharanpur chanted anti-Nupur Sharma slogans. After security personnel attempted to stop them, some of them became violent. Several West Asian countries demanded a public apology, summoned Indian envoys, and saw calls for an Indian product boycott. The government attempted to defuse the situation by referring to the comments as “fringe elements’ views.”
