On the 115th anniversary of Babu Jagjivan Ram’s birth, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to the veteran leader, saying that the nation will always remember his remarkable contribution. The veteran leader was admired for his administrative skills and concern for the poor.

“On the occasion of Babu Jagjivan Ram Ji’s birth anniversary, tributes have been paid to him. Whether it was during the freedom movement or after independence, our country will always remember his outstanding contribution. He was well-liked for his administrative abilities and concern for the underprivileged “PM Modi sent out a tweet.

Jagjivan Ram, also known as Babuji, was a Dalit icon who fought for the rights of the underprivileged in India. Jagjivan Ram, a freedom fighter who served as a minister in Jawaharlal Nehru’s and India Gandhi’s governments, was born in Bihar in 1908. To protest the Emergency, he left the Congress and served as a Deputy Prime Minister in the Janata Party government from 1977 to 1979.

During the 1971 India-Pakistan War, he served as Defence Minister. Jagjivan Ram fought for a just and egalitarian society throughout his political career, which spanned a record 50 years.

In 1935, he founded the All-India Depressed Classes League, which worked for equality for the “untouchables” during India’s independence movement.
