Out On Parole, Rape Convict Ram Rahim Releases Diwali Music Video
Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, a religious leader who was convicted of rape and murder and is currently on parole, appears in a music video that is becoming more popular on YouTube. Dera Sacha Sauda’s leader received a 20-year prison sentence after being found guilty in 2017. Last week, after his family submitted an application, he was given a 40-day release.
On the day of Diwali, he uploaded a bright new Punjabi music video to his YouTube channel. He is given credit for the music, lyrics, singing, composition, and direction in the written descriptions of the video. More than 42 lakh people have viewed it in the past 22 hours.
The words of the song pay homage to his two gurus, who are shown in the video as Ram Rahim walks about with diyas lit. The lyrics read, “People only celebrate Diwali on one day, but because of you (his two preceding gurus Shah Satnam and Shah Mastana), for us, every day is Diwali.”
Since he released his first single, “Love Charger,” about 10 years ago, Gurmeet Ram Rahim has been a fan of autotuned singing, disco music, and colourful outfits and graphics.
He had recently organised a virtual “satsang” event from Baghpat in Uttar Pradesh, which was attended by a number of politicians, including the mayor of Karnal in Haryana and several BJP leaders. The Dera’s administrative centre is in Sirsa, where Ram Rahim is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence for the rape of two female pupils at his ashram. There have been numerous claims that the BJP used Ram Rahim to sway voters before of significant elections.
