Order issued extending the term of the ED director for another year

The Central Government has extended the tenure of Enforcement Directorate Director SK Mishra by one year. The deadline has been extended to next November. The move comes after SK Mishra’s service ended this month.

Earlier in the day, the Center had extended the tenure of CBI and ED directors to five years. The amendment was passed to overturn the Supreme Court order not to extend Mishra’s service. Earlier, a petition was filed in the Supreme Court challenging the Centre’s decision to extend the tenure of Enforcement Director SK Mishra.

After hearing the petition, the court upheld the government’s decision to extend the term by one year but ordered that it not be extended again. Following this, the Central Government issued an ordinance to extend the tenure of the CBI and ED directors. The term of directors was up to two years.
