Ola Electric Rejects Battery Tech Theft Claims, Blames ‘Nervous’ Foreign Rival
Ola Electric has strongly dismissed accusations of stealing battery technology from a former LG Energy Solution executive, calling the claims “misleading and completely baseless.” The company asserted that the allegations are a targeted attack by a foreign competitor concerned about India’s growing strength in electric vehicle manufacturing and innovation.
According to Ola, the South Korean report alleging the transfer of pouch cell technology is flawed as the company does not pursue that “old and outdated” technology. Instead, its newly launched 4680 “Bharat Cell” is based on advanced dry electrode tech in a cylindrical design. Ola suggested the timing of the allegations—aligned with the commercial rollout of its indigenous battery cells—shows an intent to undermine its progress.
Emphasizing its independent R&D capabilities, Ola cited over 720 patent filings, a state-of-the-art Battery Innovation Centre in Bengaluru, and India’s first operational Gigafactory built with a ₹2,500 crore investment. Positioning itself as a driver of India’s clean energy ambitions, the company reaffirmed its commitment to protecting its intellectual property and advancing homegrown innovation despite competitive pressures.
