“No Money Will Be Left Here, If…”: Maharashtra Governor’s Remarks Create Controversy

Bhagat Singh Koshiyari, the governor of Maharashtra, caused a stir when he said that the state would run out of money if Gujaratis and Rajasthanis left the state. The governor of Maharashtra declared yesterday during a speech that “no money would be left here” if Gujaratis and Rajasthanis were to leave the state, particularly Mumbai and Thane.

Mumbai would not be able to continue serving as the nation’s financial centre, Mr. Koshiyari continued. He said this over the naming ceremony for a chowk in Mumbai’s western district of Andheri. According to a press release from the Raj Bhavan, Koshyari complimented the Gujarati and Rajasthani populations’ contributions to building Mumbai the nation’s financial centre.

The governor claimed that the Rajasthani-Marwari community is present throughout the nation as well as in places like Nepal and Mauritius. “Wherever members of this group go, they not only engage in commerce, but also engage in philanthropic activities by establishing schools and hospitals,” he stated.

Shiv Sena and Congress politicians have criticised Mr. Kohisyari and demanded an apology from him. Sanjay Raut, a Shiv Sena lawmaker, criticised the Governor’s comments today, saying they were offensive to the hard-working Marathi people.

Mr. Raut wrote in Marathi, “The marathi man is getting abused soon after the BJP backed Chief Minister came to office.”

Jairam Ramesh and Sachin Sawant, two prominent Congressmen, also tweeted the video and criticised the governor for making the comments.
