New turnover for Barcelona; Winning start in La Liga
The Spanish super club Barcelona started the without Messi era with a victory. In the first match of the season in La Liga, Barcelona defeated Real Sociedad by four goals to two. Martin Brathwaite scored a brace for Barcelona.
Barcelona got off to an official start at home. Gerard Pique opened the scoring in the 19th minute with a header. Brathwaite then doubled the lead in the 45 + 2 and 59 minutes with a three-goal lead. Sergio Roberto (90 + 1) completed Barcelona’s tally in injury time with minutes left in the game. Sodidad’s reply came in the 82nd and 85th minutes.
Atletico Madrid, the defending champions of La Liga, started with a victory. In the first match of the season, Atletico beat Celta Vigo by two goals to one. Angel Correa scored twice to give Diego Simeone and his team the win. The Argentine scored in the 23rd and 64th minutes. Iago Aspas scored for Celta.
In addition to Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid, Sevilla and Valencia have also won their first matches of the season.
