Neville Tata Set to Join Sir Ratan Tata Trust Board, Report Says
Tata Trusts is reportedly set to induct Neville Tata onto the board of the Sir Ratan Tata Trust (SRTT) at a meeting scheduled later this week, marking another step in a generational shift within the group. Neville, 32, is the son of Tata Trusts chairman Noel Tata and had joined the board of the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust in November last year, signalling his growing role in the governance of the Tata ecosystem.
According to a report by The Economic Times, Neville’s induction would strengthen Noel Tata’s influence across the Trusts and underline Neville’s rising stature. He currently heads Star Bazaar, the hypermarket business of Trent, and serves as a trustee on several other Tata Trusts, including the JRD Tata Trust, Tata Social Welfare Trust, and RD Tata Trust. Together, the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust and Sir Ratan Tata Trust control over 51% of Tata Sons, the group’s holding company.
The move comes amid ongoing governance changes and internal differences within Tata Trusts following Ratan Tata’s death in October 2024. Recent developments include disputes over board nominations, trustee renewals, and the impact of the Maharashtra Public Trusts (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025, which limits perpetual trusteeships. With multiple trustee terms up for renewal this year, further changes in the Trusts’ leadership and oversight structure are expected.
