Nasscom Urges IT Firms to Boost Cybersecurity Amid West Asia Tensions
India’s IT industry body Nasscom on Monday advised technology companies to strengthen operational preparedness and cybersecurity frameworks amid the escalating geopolitical tensions in West Asia. In a fresh advisory to member firms, the association said that although business operations remain stable for now, organisations should proactively review contingency plans and enhance resilience measures in case the situation worsens. The alert comes after recent US and Israeli strikes on Iran triggered retaliatory missile and drone attacks, raising concerns over regional stability and potential disruptions to global technology infrastructure, airspace, and maritime trade routes.
Nasscom noted that the widening conflict has already unsettled global markets, with investors growing cautious over possible interruptions to oil and gas supply, logistics chains, and technology services. Reflecting this uncertainty, India’s benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty dropped nearly 3 per cent in early trading on Monday, weighed down by rising crude oil prices and weak global equity trends. The advisory urges companies to activate business continuity plans, prioritise employee safety, and enable work-from-home arrangements for staff in affected regions while closely monitoring developments.
The industry body also warned that geopolitical crises often lead to a surge in cyber threats, disinformation campaigns, and infrastructure attacks. Companies have been asked to strengthen cybersecurity by enforcing multi-factor authentication, accelerating software patching, resetting credentials, and auditing supply chains and third-party vendors with Middle East exposure. Nasscom further recommended preparing for potential Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attacks and evaluating alternative routing for cloud infrastructure and data centres to maintain system resilience. The organisation said it continues to monitor the situation closely and is coordinating with authorities to support employees and companies operating in the region.
