‘Nano GCCs’ to Power Next Wave of Capability Centres in India

India’s global capability centre (GCC) ecosystem is set for a transformation driven by the rise of “Nano GCCs” — compact, innovation-focused hubs employing 50–150 highly skilled professionals. According to a Teamlease report, these centres will focus on niche areas such as semiconductors and chip design, AI and ML, biotech and pharma R&D, telecom and 5G services, and EV systems. The report projects India’s GCC base to grow from 1,800 in 2025 to 2,400 by 2030, recording an 11–12% CAGR.

India currently hosts 55% of all global GCCs, employing 2.8 million people and contributing $64.6 billion in export revenue in FY24 — a 40% jump from FY23. With India targeting a $10 trillion GDP by 2030, GCC-led service exports are expected to play a crucial role, doubling their GDP contribution to 2% by the decade’s end. The report also highlights increasing AI governance adoption, fresh hiring trends, and growing talent competition driven by rapid digitalisation.

While Tier 1 cities remain primary hubs, Tier 2 and 3 cities like Kochi, Coimbatore, Jaipur, and Indore are emerging as new centres of GCC growth. The study also underscores the growing focus on compliance in data privacy, cybersecurity, and workplace safety, with top GCCs leading in diversity — employing 40% women, 1.5 times the industry average.
