Mumbai to Host Prince William’s Earthshot Prize Awards in 2026
India’s financial capital, Mumbai, will host the 2026 edition of the The Earthshot Prize, the global environmental award founded by Prince William. The announcement was made as the city launched its first climate summit, marking a significant moment for India’s growing role in global climate action. Established in 2020, the Earthshot Prize awards five winners £1 million each to scale innovative solutions aimed at repairing the planet.
In a statement, Prince William said India represents one of the world’s most influential forces for climate and nature, emphasizing that solutions developed and implemented at scale in India can inspire global progress. The annual awards ceremony is expected to bring together environmental leaders, innovators and policymakers from around the world to spotlight breakthrough climate solutions.
The announcement coincided with Mumbai Climate Week, which is being attended by prominent global figures including former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and senior United Nations officials. India, the world’s third-largest carbon emitter, has stepped up its climate commitments in recent years, including a pledge to achieve net-zero emissions by 2070, even as it grapples with worsening air quality and climate-related extreme weather events.
