Mumbai Road Rage Case Sparks Political Ripples Amid Bengal Poll Campaign
A road rage incident in Mumbai has drawn political attention after the father-in-law of former India cricketer and Trinamool Congress MP Yusuf Pathan, along with his son and another relative, was arrested for allegedly assaulting a man and his family in the Byculla area. The confrontation reportedly began when a car splashed water from a pothole onto one of the accused, escalating into a violent altercation. Police stated that the accused were identified through CCTV footage and witness accounts, and weapons including bamboo sticks and baseball bats were recovered. One suspect remains absconding.
Authorities have booked the accused under multiple provisions of the Indian Penal Code, citing charges related to assault and causing hurt. Investigators emphasized that the combination of surveillance evidence, eyewitness testimony, and recovered weapons has strengthened the case. The incident has once again highlighted concerns about rising urban confrontations and public safety in densely populated cities.
Meanwhile, Yusuf Pathan continues campaigning in West Bengal ahead of the ongoing Assembly elections. Speaking during a roadshow, he expressed confidence in the Trinamool Congress’ prospects and backed Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, particularly on issues surrounding voter roll revisions. Polling in the state will take place in two phases on April 23 and April 29, with counting scheduled for May 4.
