Meta Partners with Reliance for First AI Data Center in India
Meta has partnered with Reliance Industries to establish its first AI-enabled data center in India, marking a major investment in the country’s growing digital infrastructure. The facility will be built in Jamnagar, Gujarat, with an initial capacity of 168 MW and will be developed by Reliance for Meta under a leasing arrangement with future expansion options.
The social media giant said India’s vast user base and rapidly expanding digital economy make it a strategic location for AI and cloud investments. Industry estimates suggest India’s data center market could nearly double by 2034, driven by increasing demand for artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and digital services.
The partnership builds on a growing relationship between the two companies. In 2024, Meta and Reliance launched a joint venture focused on AI tools and enterprise solutions powered by Meta’s Llama models. Meta had also invested $5.7 billion in Reliance’s Jio Platforms in 2020, strengthening ties between the technology and telecom giants.
