Maoists kill Lawmaker in AP

A group of Maoists allegedly belonging to the illegal group CPI (Maoist) have forcefully stopped the convoy of two Andhra Pradesh politicians (a lawmaker and an ex-lawmaker), which were moving towards a rural village in the state, and shot them dead using the weapon tactically snatched from the politicians’ bodyguards.

The attackers have conducted a Kangaroo Court before pumping bullets into their body mercilessly. It is the first time in the recent history of the state such a cruel crime have been committed against the lawmakers by the far-leftist organisations, which have a significant presence in the Indian states of Andhra Pradesh and its neighbour Odisha.

Araku MLA Kidari Sarveshwara Rao and a former MLA of the same constituency Siveri Soma are the two politicians who have been shot dead by the leftist militants. At this moment, there is no clarity on why they have been attacked. But, there are rumours that the politicians were in some sort of conflict with some villagers over the quarry run by the politicians’ close relative.

It is interesting to note that both deceased politicians are the members of the ruling Telugu Desham Party. AP Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, who is at present in a foreign tour, is closely monitoring the developments, as per a source.

An investigation is on.
