Maharashtra Fixes New Speed Limit On Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway
The Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Mahamarg, which is still under construction, has a top speed limit of 120 km/h (highway).
A notice published on October 4 stated that two-wheelers, auto rickshaws, and quadricycles would not be permitted on the roadway.
According to the document, passenger vehicles in the “M1” category that can accommodate eight passengers, including the driver, can travel at a top speed of 120 kmph on plain portions and 100 kmph in Ghat sections and tunnels.
The announcement further stated that a top speed of 150 kmph is intended for the 701-km long expressway connecting Mumbai and Nagpur.
It is anticipated that the first segment of the Nagpur to Shirdi route would soon be accessible to traffic.
Passenger cars with a carrying capacity of more than nine would be limited to a top speed of 80 kmph in Ghat parts and tunnels and 100 kmph on plain sections.
The maximum speed for all sorts of cargo vehicles falling under the N category will be 80 kmph.
Kulwant Kumar Sarangal, additional director general of the Maharashtra Highway Police, signed the notification.
The six-lane, access-controlled Hindu Hrudaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg. After the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, it is the second expressway in the state.
The ₹ 49,250 crore corridor passes through 392 villages spread over 11 districts.
