Kit Issue Forces India to Change Asian Games Flagbearer
India replaced shot putter Tajinderpal Singh Toor as its male flagbearer for Saturday’s Asian Games opening ceremony in Nagoya, Japan, after he did not receive his official ceremonial kit in time. Kabaddi player Pawan Sehrawat will take his place, while shooter Manu Bhaker remains the female flagbearer.
Toor, 31, is aiming for his third consecutive Asian Games gold medal in shot put. He said his kit was expected to arrive at the airport at 3 p.m., making it difficult for him to collect it and reach the opening ceremony venue on time.
Toor said the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) had informed him about his flagbearer role only the previous day. The IOA said in a statement that Toor would be unable to take part as flagbearer due to a “technical issue.”
