Kiara Advani recalls being rejected by designers when she was a ‘nobody’, defends Karan Johar from nepotism hate

In an interview, Kiara Advani recalled being rejected by designers at the start of her career, but only Manish Malhotra made the cut. She said she learned not to be disrespectful to others from people like Manish and filmmaker Karan Johar, who are both at the top of their respective fields.

Kiara was joined by Kartik Aaryan, her Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 co-star, for an interview with Film Companion ahead of the release of the film. When asked about the Manish incident, Kiara said that now that she’s worked in the industry for a while, she understands where those people were coming from.

She explained, “At the end of the day, this is a business.” “I believe that certain people who have achieved great success in their fields are exempt from this social norm… So, ‘Let’s be exclusive as a brand, let’s not give everything to everyone,’ because even actors don’t want to wear what everyone else is wearing. It’s now international, and all that nonsense continues.”

“At that point, there was this thing,” she continued, “and Manish was one of those people who never looked at it that way.” He never thought to himself, “I’ll give something to someone because they’re successful.” Karan, too. He gets a lot of flak for nepotism and other things, but he took me when I was a nobody and no one told him to.”

Despite Kiara’s requests, the agency that represented her at the time did not push for her to be cast in Karan’s films. However, she was able to secure Lust Stories thanks to a chance encounter. “These are supremely successful people,” she concluded, “but they didn’t come to me because I was successful.”
Following that, Kiara collaborated with Karan on films such as Kalank, Shershaah, Good Newwz, Guilty, and the upcoming Jug Jugg Jeeyo.
