Jupiter Wagons arm, Log9 Materials to supply LFP batteries for Vande Bharat trainsets
Jupiter Electric Mobility Pvt. Ltd., a subsidiary of Jupiter Wagons Limited, in collaboration with Log9 Materials, has secured a contract from Siemens to supply Lithium-Ion Phosphate (LFP) batteries for the Vande Bharat trainsets. Specifically, they will provide 36 auxiliary batteries, each with a capacity of 72.8 kWh, for nine trainsets.
These 72.8 kWh LFP battery packs have been approved by BHEL for use in the Vande Bharat trainsets. This approval from BHEL, a key player in the railway industry, highlights the robustness and technical excellence of Jupiter’s battery solutions, as stated in an exchange filing by the company.
Additionally, Jupiter has successfully completed a six-month trial of its 11.2 kWh LFP battery pack for rail coaches, earning the distinction of being the first company to receive certification from the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO). The company noted in a filing that these achievements reflect their commitment to modernizing and electrifying Indian Railways, contributing to a greener and more efficient transportation network. They emphasized that their LFP battery technology provides superior performance, safety, and longevity, making it suitable for various railway applications.
Vivek Lohia, Managing Director of Jupiter Wagons, remarked that these achievements demonstrate their dedication to innovation and excellence in railway technology. He pointed out that the RDSO certification, the trust shown by Siemens, and the technical approval from BHEL are clear indicators of the superior quality and reliability of their LFP battery solutions. Lohia also noted the significant demand from Indian Railways and the shift towards sustainable and energy-efficient solutions, suggesting that this business could become a major revenue contributor in the medium to long term.
