ISRO Sets New Benchmark with LVM3-M6 Launch Carrying BlueBird Block-2 Satellite
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) achieved a major milestone on Wednesday by successfully launching the LVM3-M6 rocket carrying the next-generation BlueBird Block-2 communication satellite from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota. The mission underscores India’s growing strength in space technology and highlights the expanding role of ISRO’s heavy-lift launch vehicle in global commercial space missions.
ISRO’s most powerful rocket, LVM3, placed the 6,100 kg BlueBird Block-2 satellite into Low Earth Orbit, marking the heaviest payload ever carried by the vehicle. This record-setting launch demonstrates the enhanced payload capability and reliability of LVM3, which has previously supported high-profile missions such as Chandrayaan-2, Chandrayaan-3, and multiple OneWeb satellite deployments.
The commercial mission, conducted in partnership with US-based AST SpaceMobile, aims to boost global mobile broadband connectivity, particularly in remote and underserved regions. Union Minister Jitendra Singh praised the achievement, crediting ISRO’s consistent success to strong national support, and reaffirmed India’s position as a key player in the international space market.
